Citizenship Lawyer – An Update

A Citizen by the legal definition has all the rights and privileges afforded to everyone in the system, but when a person becomes a naturalized citizen, he or she may not enjoy certain rights and benefits that a non-citizen would be entitled to enjoy because of the fact that he or she is not a U.S. citizen by birth. For example, a U.S. citizen cannot testify or defend himself in a U.S. court against an enemy of the United States if the citizen has become a citizen of another country and is fighting on behalf of that country against the United States. An alien who becomes a citizen of the United States may be prohibited from providing assistance to terrorists or espionage against the United States. An alien who is a danger to the national security of the United States or any U.S. dependent (including the spouses and children of U.S. citizens) may not be granted any privileges or benefits provided to a national or resident of the United States, regardless of whether such individual is a U.S. citizen or not.Do you want to learn more? A citizenship lawyer can help those who are in the process of naturalization and permanent residence. Naturalization can be a complicated process that involves many steps. Many people mistakenly believe that once they are approved for U.S. citizenship, they cannot change their citizenship. However, anyone who acquires U.S. citizenship can change their status at any time. In addition, even though a green card holder may have been naturalized for several years, they may still be required to remain in the country under the terms of their visa.

Naturalization as an immigrant, however, does not provide guarantees regarding future access to U.S. citizenship. There are many individuals who acquire green cards through family reunification or employment-based programs, but then become required to remain in the country until the green card holder reaches the age of 65. An immigration lawyer can help those who have become subject to this limitation. They can also advise the client on how to remove the restriction once it becomes a permanent resident.
